Elevated Luxe : Sports One

This luxe trend has just been elevated.

Forget what you knew about sports luxe. No longer is it about “athleisure”, but about taking sportswear detailing and elevating it to a place of luxury, combining the comfort of sportswear with the sophistication of high fashion.

It’s modern, uncomplicated and exciting.

This trend brings out an informal edge, creating multidimensional pieces with the vision of functionality and flair. From minimalist silhouettes and luxe fabrications accentuated by chunky elastic trims, exposed zips, exaggerated toggles and athletic stripes, we can see a modern laid back wardrobe develop beyond mediocrity.

Nicolas Ghesquiere kept it streamlined and chic at Louis Vuitton, playing on illusion, shapes and contrasting textures. It engages monochromatic detailing while the focus is directed toward the simplistic yet effective layering. The aesthetic is minimal and sophisticated.

Rihanna’s take on the latest Fenty x Puma collaboration is a definitive contrast. While the sportswear influence was highly interpreted the first time around, Rihanna’s second collab takes a more subtle approach, with an opportunity to play on the juxtaposition of femininity vs functionality. We see fabrications of rich satins and delicate florals, contrasted by oversized hoodies with lace up trims and toggles, accentuated by corsets and lace. However outrageous, the colour palette and attitude just make it work.

The transition from sportswear as streetwear is nothing groundbreaking. A constant in the “off duty model” wardrobe, you can see it on likes of Gigi Hadid, spotted rocking the trend in a simple yet sexy way with staple wet look jeans and a khaki bomber, finishing off the look with a jacket around the waist and suede ankle boots. Understated.

Taking inspiration from the runways of London and New York, City Chic’s latest collection, Sports One, interprets the trend seamlessly for high street dressing. Versatility allows you to pick and choose pieces that work best for you and your current wardrobe. The monochromatic colour palette means this look is perfect for those craving a smooth transition from boardroom to bar.

For ultimate detailing, the Sports One Tunic is a stand out piece with its drawstring feature, and perfect for those a little bolder. The Game Day Skirt is an investment, easily styled casually with a cropped tee, or sexed up with a little black bustier. Simply chic, the Sexy Stripe dress is a no brainer, easy to wear and uber comfy – you can’t go wrong. But my pick of the bunch? The Pleated Zip Front Dress. This shape is cut perfectly to hit every curve, with subtle details like a gold zip and split in the front. Me all over.

Whether your style dictates you finish your outfit with Stan’s or stilettos, this trend knows no boundaries.
