Throw back to the summers of the early 90s in this ultra-cool and easy to wear look.
Look, we all know this whole 90s resurgence is not something new. It’s a look that transcends the era into which it was born. Grunge and minimalist streetwear was key, think micro florals, slip dresses, sneakers and chokers. What’s refreshing this season is the way the floral prints have been reimagined, textures have been injected and colour palettes have been updated. And the best thing, it’s such a versatile and easy to wear trend. Everyone has their own take.

Only last week, the runways of London exploded with Spring/Summer 2017 collections screaming 90s.
Marques Almeida saw oversized denim make an appearance, whilst textures were the key player in this 90s trend update. It was a sensory overload, with rich satins, heavy foiling, ostrich feathers, delicate lace and metallic leather all featuring in the collection. Mix this with earthy florals and bold stripes and it makes for an awe-inspiring and all at once scary experience. But that’s what fashion is all about.
With its mix of Western and Eastern influence, Ashish brings it up a notch. His Spring/Summer 2017 look is so over the top, but it just works. From the embroidered sunshine sheer tunic, to the holographic cobalt flared jumpsuit, its OTT to the max. But what works so well, taking this from avant garde to street-ready, is the simplicity of the shapes. It’s the detailing that elevates this brand.
The stand out from these London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017 collections was House of Holland. Always the risk-taker and statement maker, Henry Holland has mismatched everything to perfection. The contrast in textures play the biggest part. Sports mesh is drenched in rich hand embroidered flowers, whilst off-the-shoulder ginghams are accented with layered t-shirts and leather accessories. Endless options for those bold enough to take the step back in time.
All your 90s bases are covered with City Chic. Their transition from runway to street trend is flawless. So many versatile pieces, most of which are on my lust-list, make Summer dressing so easy. The key piece of the collection has to be the Free Love Maxi Dress, so weekend-chic with its off the shoulder cut and layered frill edging. And that little splice of lace in the skirt is just heaven. The Pretty Daisy Dress is my absolute must-have. This micro floral slip dress is so simple, yet has the most delicate crochet panels inlaid down the front, proving it’s all in the details. Layer a cropped tee underneath and style with cons and a choker. Done. Also worth a big mention, the Floating Flower Shorts. Paired perfectly with the Bell Sleeve Top for those balmy Summer nights.
The best part about this collection - most pieces are available in 2 different colours.
When something works, buy it in every colour.
Add a denim jacket, combat boots and just enough attitude, you’re good to go.
