Packing Light

Packing for a holiday is always a stressful time no matter where you are headed. A hot summer getaway to a tropical beach or a fabulous mid winter in the big city vacay all require lots of preparation and planning when it comes to what goes into your suitcase, at least they do for me. You see I'm a bit of a planner, always making lists and writing notes in my diary. Yes you read that correctly, writing! My brain can't handle diary planning and list making on my phone, I need to physically write everything down on paper to make it sink in. Surely I'm not the only one? Anyway for my recent big trip to Japan I went to town with the planning, sitting my two travel buddies down for a presentation of our schedule with a huge clipboard, diagrams and lists a-plenty. Luckily they're a good humoured duo, my husband and best friend, and they were happy to let me plan the whole adventure because, well, I can be a little bossy. The plan for the three week trip was two weeks in Tokyo at one base, which was pretty easy to plan, and then a week of travelling light around the country via the bullet train. That week of travelling light is where my packing got stressful, I needed to be able to carry my luggage with me through mountains, on and off trains, subways, cable cars and ferry's! That's where this City Chic floral print zip front tunic steps in. Not only was it lightweight enough for the hot and humid Japanese climate at this time of year but it doesn't crease and it dries incredibly fast - prefect for when you're changing hotels daily. The whole trip I was wishing I had two or three of these in the different designs because they're just so versatile. The pockets were perfect for placing my camera, purse and phone in for easy access at temples or train stations. Seriously it is just the most perfect travel dress ever!

This is me at Fushimi Inari in Kyoto after four hours of travel and very little sleep on one of the hottest days we had. Fushimi Inari is famous for it's many tori gates which line the Inari mountain. You may recognise it from a scene in Memoirs of a Geisha.

Enjoying a nice cooling traditional Japanese ice desert known as a Kakigōri which is similar to a Slurpee only more delicious.

Taking a rest after climbing the mountain. Did I say it was hot that day?

The shrine also worships foxes who are regarded as messengers. The statues often have them with a key in their mouth.

So many tori gates, it really is a breath taking sight.
