Trend: Clogs and floppy hats

Every street style blog I look at right now features someone in a brown floppy hat or wearing clogs, and more often than not both at once! To say I am obsessed with how chic this looks is an understatement. As soon as I saw the featured black with cream trim City Chic dress in store I knew I was onto a winning choice for my turn to rock this look.

Dress: City Chic Frill front Claudine dress $129.95
Floppy Hat: Fun Accessories $29.95
Belt: City Chic stitch belt in black $29.95
Bangles: City Chic glam mesh bangle set $29.95
Leggings: City Chic snap button hem leggings $24.95
Clogs: Funkis $120

My belt and bag are vintage and my jewellery is handmade by friends but everything else is the same as in the break down. I think I look pretty cute and chic in this outfit. What do you think?

Young Fat and Fabulous Conference in New York

the #yffcon girls from left to right: Me, Nicolette from Nicolette Mason, Mimi and Peppi from More to Love, Christina from Musings of a Fatshionista, Gabby from Carazones Rojos, Melinda from Sound Bites, Gabi from Young Fat & Fabulous, J from Fatshionable and Sakina from Saks in the City. I have never seen so many amazingly dressed fat girls before, it was seriously exciting to be involved in such a great event. Thanks so much to Gabi from the namesake blog, Young Fat and Fabulous, for creating such a fabulous and life changing event. I feel so much more confidant now, more than I have ever felt, thanks to this empowering movement of young fabulous women who just so happen to be fat and fashionable.

J, Gabi and Sakina hailing a cab in style.

Such a Sex and the City moment.

More fabulous looks from the girls at our reader meet up during the conference.

Our Plus Model Magazine shoot was such a fun experience. Getting our hair and make-up done by professionals was pure indulgence.

Sakina in a blissed out state.

Look at all the accessories we had to choose from by the lovely New York based jewellery designer Fennimas.

Working it for the camera. They played Lady Gaga for me and I totally rocked out. I wore my favourite City Chic fringed skirt. I love that piece.

Gabi should consider going into modelling don't you think?

A group shot of all of us bloggers with Maddy the founder of the magazine. Such a fun day.

City Chic showed the new Winter collection to the girls.

Everyone got a fabulous gift bag.

Phil from City Chic hired out the private room at the fancy NYC Cafeteria restaurant.

The red velvet cake was a popular desert.

Mimmi is so funny.

Lucy, City Chic's head buyer and designer, went through each piece one by one. This dress was my favourite as right now I'm loving sheer and black.

The girls all died over this cute blouse.

Sakina just had to try it on. How fabulous does it look on her?

We then headed over to the Gansevoort hotel rooftop pool party in the Meatpacking district to celebrate with the City Chic team.

Sakina looking hot.

Gabby looking cool.

What a fantastic view.

You can see more photos from the event over at the Young Fat and Fabulous conference blog.

Oh make me over

A blogger friend of mine, Natalie from Definatalie, was in town to attend a fancy fashion event and asked me to help make her over for the night. She wanted to look sophisticated and glamorous but still with elements of her quirky artistic personality shining through.

So off we went to City Chic, where Natalie and I browsed through all the lovely new stock and got excited by all the polka dots. I steered Natalie towards the new Nautigal range as I felt there were some hot pieces perfect for a fashion event there.

Time to try it all on. We had arm fulls of options because you never know what will and wont work. I knew I wanted to emphasise Natalie's waist to help define her shape so you could actually see her killer curves instead of hiding it under something shapeless.

Natalie was a little afraid of the height of these babies, till she tried them on that is.

Once on she wasn't going to take them off again, these had to be hers!

Hmmmm, maybe a little too floral for a night time event?

Accessories are key to making an outfit. For rings the bigger the better in my opinion.

Oh la la, what did Natalie end up getting? Can you tell she was very excited by her new amazing outfit inside those shopping bags?

The BIG REVEAL. Natalie and I settled on the City Chic Chiffon Riviera dress $129.95, City Chic black platform heels $129.95, City Chic Vinyl cropped jacket $99.95 and a collection of City Chic accessories from in store. Doesn't she look amazing? She made her necklace herself (her artistic sensibilities shining through) and people couldn't stop complementing her all night on the amazing dress.

What do you think of Natalie's fab new outfit?

When I was in Tokyo everyone was talking about this new trend Marine that they kept seeing everywhere (in Tokyo the city buzzes with excitement over new trends, its hard to explain but everyone in the city gets in on the action). So I'm pretty excited to see it end up here at City Chic. What the Japanese may call Marine we call Nautical, and here at City Chic we actually say naughty-gal. While nautical is nothing new our take on it sexes it up and brings out the timeless qualities of the retro sailor look.

A fun behind the scenes video of the fabulous look book shoot.

I love the striped blazer, I actually used it in the recent Fashion Journal shoot.

The white biker jacket looks hot teamed with the bright blue dress.

Sail away, the nautigal collection is in store now.
