New Season: Lady like elegance

Here is a sneaky peak at our new lady like lookbook.

The grey bow print t-shirt is both elegant and casual all at once, especially as the styling team have teamed it with a classic denim jacket. A trusted wardrobe staple, the denim jacket is once again a must have item for fashionistas world wide as its recently been seen on the international runways. Dress it up or dress it down you can't go wrong with a denim jacket.

My fave piece in the whole collection is the versatile pastel pink studded bow belt, which at only $39.95 is a cute, cheap and fun addition to any outfit! Here it is worn at the waist (I'm all about wearing things at the waist if you haven't noticed) over a sexy black satin shift dress with some simple pumps, tres chic.

My love for high waisted jeans knows no bounds, so I'm very excited about these jeans. Lots of styling ideas for these babies.

The rara skirt in general is very forgiving as the frills skim over all your, for want of a better word, "problem" areas. This one is extra spesh as grey is going to be huge this winter. Yes grey, especially head to toe grey, and looking at this new collection you could come up with an entirely grey look quick smart. If head to toe grey isn't your thing however the way the team have styled the skirt is pretty sweet too.

The ultimate casual look. Black leggings check, denim jacket check, white printed tee check and some trusty ballet flats equal a comfy casual yet smart outfit, check!

The drapey sheer singlet is perfect for layering with. Play with it and have fun.

What a sexy look, this racy figure hugging vest and spray on skinny jeans are a seriously smoking combo.

Keep checking out the website to see when the new season stock lands in the online store.
Oh and a little fyi, there is a special members only SALE for two days only starting Thursday and ending Friday. Get shopping!

Harajuku Girl

Harajuku is fashion mecca in Tokyo. It's where the famous "Harajuku girls" flock to show off their zany outfits for the waiting street fashion photographers and of course to shop for the next big thing in Harajuku style. Right now that big thing is girly pastel pink, especially when worn with black. Everywhere I looked on my last visit to the area I saw girls in pastel pinks and purples in various forms. Taking inspiration from this I have come up with City Chic's own Harajuku girl outfit. Layering and over accessorising is key to achieve the Harajuku girl look, and don't be afraid of colour, these girls take it that step further and dye their hair to match their looks but we don't need to go that far to have fun Harajuku style.

City Chic frill blouse $69.95: Girly and cute blouse, perfect for your inner kawaii Harajuku girl.
City Chic fringed skirt $69.95: I always talk about texture, but I love texture so much, as do Harajuku girls. I recommend tucking the blouse into the skirt to get the full effect of the fab fringing on this skirt.
City Chic purple draped cardigan $59.95: Layer up with this bold statement making cardi.
Nasty Girl sunnies $32: Lady Gaga-esque square frames are everywhere in Harajuku right now.
City Chic bow stud belt $39.95: All the girls wear belts like this here, I'm so excited that City Chic have come out with it. The juxtaposition of the rock chick studs with the girly pink bow is so Harajuku girl statement making. I would wear it at the waistband of the fringed skirt.
Drown vortex necklace $119: Remember Harajuku style is all about bold statements and loads of accessories.
Tsumori Chisato wedges $540 USD from Opening Ceremony: Tsumori Chisato is a Japanese designer and these shoes are lust worthingly Harajuku in style. The fringing on the heel references the fringing in the City Chic skirt and the colours complement the whole look. Amazing find and so worth the price. Have you ever seen anything like them before?
Diva flower ring $14.99: For Harajuku style the opposite of Coco Chanel's less is more "take something off before you leave the house" advice is true, its all about more is more, Harajuku girls are accessories crazy!

Now for some fun lets see how it would look on an anime character.

What do you think of this Harajuku Girl look? Would you wear it? I know I would.

Cold in Tokyo

Remember how in my last post I said I didn't bring a jacket with me to Japan thinking the weather would be warmer? Well since then I have been stuck in my hotel room sick with a bad cold which turned into a major asthma attack. Looking at this view of Tokyo for the last 7 days and not being able to go outside has been so frustrating. If only I brought a winter coat with me, like one of these fab ones from City Chic that I have been lusting over from afar.

Military jacket $179.95
Classic black and on trend with its Military styling. Looks so warm and cosy, perfect for the recent cold weather here in Tokyo.

Red trench $149.95
Bright red in a timeless cut. The bold red would have looked amazing amongst the sea of black clad "salarymen" (Japanese for businessmen) in Tokyo.

I have to take 6 different meds to get better, one of which is in powder form which is the grossest thing ever to take as you can't escape that icky medicine taste, it just spreads all over the walls of your mouth.

Going to the doctors in Japan was a fun cultural learning experience though, as it's just so different to back home. For instance they made me wear a face mask so as not to spread my germs on other patients which would never happen in Australia.

Blogging from Tokyo

Hi guys. I'm currently in Tokyo on a styling research trip and of course visiting my old friends from when I lived here. I didn't realise it would be so cold so my City Chic peplum cardigan $69.95 has come in super handy as I didn't pack my coat, it is meant to be Spring after all! The above photo is of me right in the heart of Tokyo's famous Shibuya crossing, which is apparently the worlds bussiest crossing.

A highlight of my trip so far was the Lady Gaga party I was invited to. Lady Gaga performed three songs for the Mac cosmetics Viva Glam HIV charity event and it has to be the best night of my life ever. I was so close to her as you can see in my photo, and as I am a huge fan I got kinda emotional and cried throughout her performance. I swear she looked right into my eyes.

Ok so more posts coming tomorrow, just wanted to let you know what's up.

Purple Rain

Purple is a huge colour this winter, which is great as who doesn't like purple? It looks great on any skin tone and when those dark grey clouds get all a bit too much just look down at your bright top and it will surely brighten up your day.

Purple bow frill top: City Chic $49.95 So bright and fun.
Purple feather print studded hem skirt: City Chic $69.95 The ultimate versatile winter skirt, the elastic waistband allows you to wear it with a belt at the waist or pull it low on the hips to make it longer on the legs.
Black faux fur vest: City Chic $69.95 Texture looks fantastic against bright colours.
Rouched hem leggings: City Chic $29.95 Rouching on the ankle highlights the slimmest part of the leg thus making you look slimmer.
Owl necklace: Diva $19.95 I swear by statement necklaces, and this one is fantastic.
Mauve lipstick: Cyber by Mac Cosmetics $35
Patent leather bag: Mimco $499 This iconic bag is an investment into your style.
Studded heels: Rubi Shoes $69.95 Such a fun shoe with studs to match the hem of the skirt.

Curves Ahead

Mark Fast, Prada, Louis Vuitton.

Curves are "in", at least that's what you would think if you were to go through the runway photos on from the recent Autumn/Winter 2010 shows. Designers such as Mark Fast, Prada and Louis Vuitton all casted "curvy models" to much acclaim. More and more magazines are featuring plus size fashion spreads with real women and the media is reporting on plus size fashion more and more. However is it all too little too late? What are your thoughts?

Cover girl

I am really excited to have styled my first ever cover of a magazine. Culture magazine is out now with my editorial on the cover and inside. This is so exciting for me, a plus size girl who always dreamed of working in fashion but never thought that she could, actually making it. Just goes to show you, you should always follow your dreams and don't let anyone try to tell you otherwise.

Skull City - An Alexander McQueen tribute outfit

Reference a moment in recent fashion history with this skull print blouse. The moment was Alexander McQueen's infamous skull print scarf adored by celebs and fashionista's alike since its release in 2006. McQueen's untimely death in February this year has meant the skull print has been making a fashion comeback. A favourite motif of the great designer the skull is both gothic and classic at the same time. Used throughout history as a symbol of horror or danger you can play with this idea and dress dangerously, taking the bad girl rock chick look that step further.

Skull print blouse: City Chic $69.95 The pulled in waist accentuates your waist, while the flared hem skims over your hips. A very flattering cut.
Skinny jeans: City Chic $89.95 Wear the blouse loose over the top of these skinny jeans to create the illusion of slim and long legs.
Leather biker jacket: City Chic $129.95 The biker jacket is the must have item right now.
Studded belt: City Chic $29.95
Ankle booties with skull zipper: Alexander McQueen from Net-a-Porter. I would kill for these boots but at a little over $1000 AUD they are a little out of reach for most of us. Start saving girls!
Skull bangle: Alexander McQueen from Net-a-Porter. A cheaper way to buy into the Alexander McQueen legacy with this bangle coming in at only $170 AUD (haha only).
Skull studded bag: Thomas Wylde on ebay.

Question Time: Tomboy

This weeks question came in from Tae who wrote:

"I am a 22 year old who is a size 16 - 18. I HATE skirts and dresses, but want to be able to still dress a little girly and funky. I am tired of feeling insecure and want to dress with more sass, to match my personality and to boost my confidence. What would you suggest???"

Well Tae I have loads of ideas and helpful tips for you.

1: High waisted jeans are the ultimate denim curve enhancer and are sure to boost your confidence. The bootleg cut of this pair of City Chic high waisted jeans perfectly balances out your hip to thigh ratio and can be styled in a variety of ways. Tuck in a t-shirt, let a blouse sit loose or even wear a dress over the top. Versatility means maximum wearability. City Chic high waisted corset bootleg jeans $89.95

2: There are so many girly tops on offer right now. Choose between a pop of colour, classic stripes or funky floral and really you can't go wrong. The plaid purple blouse is perfect for every day wear, the embroidery detailing adds that feminine girly touch while still being true to your personality. Striped tops are a personal favourite, forget that old adage that horizontal stripes mean look look larger, the opposite is actually true. The stripes hug your curves and define your shape thus making you look slimmer. For a Sunday lunch in the posh part of town I would team the striped cowl necked tee with knee high boots worn under the jeans. For night time funk up the town in the floral number and a bit of bling. City Chic check & embroidery blouse $69.95, City Chic stripe cowl neck top $59.95, City Chic skull rose corset $69.95.

3: Accessories are key. I get the feeling you may not like dangly necklaces or a wrist full of bracelets but how about a cool pair of earrings with a jolt of colour? Or a bright scarf? Or some fun and colourful flats? All of these will bring out your girly side funkifying your look. Rubi shoes Krista flat $29.95, Drown prism earring from Alegorie $69, City Chic purple ruffle scarf $19.95.

4: I just love this bright purple loose drapey cardigan and think it would be perfect for you to layer with as it gets colder. The loose baggy draped style is very on trend and its a very feminine cut without being too dress like. City Chic drape purple cardigan $69.95.

5: Belt up. Waist belts are the perfect addition to any outfit. They add some bling and sass to your look whilst showing off your figure. The leaf design on this belt is very cute and would really stand out when teamed with the striped top to sass it up a bit. City Chic leaf clasp belt $29.95.

6: A good pair of boots is essential in every girls wardrobe. The good thing with these knee high boots is the boot itself can actually fit around your calf. I have had so much trouble finding a boot to fit me that I just about gave up. Also the low heel adds height whilst still being walkable. These boots are both practical and fashionable with their buckle detail they are sure to sass up any look. City Chic buckle boot with heel $299.95.

I hope that helped you Tae. Please send in photos if you do decide to take on any of the advice. It would be great to see what you come up with.

If any of you have any styling questions please send them in.
